Q: Dear April Masini,
It's almost August, which means only one month until the kids go back to school. We always seem to be running around like crazy come the week before back to school. Are there any things we can do in August that will help September be a little less stressful? Sincerely, August is Almost September
A:
Dear August is Almost September,
There are lots of things you can do in August to make going back to school in September easier on your kids.
Get ready for back to school in August:
1. Get your child's sports physical or back to school physical. No matter what grade they're in, if they're going to play sports, they'll need a physical.
2. Haircuts. Two weeks before school is the perfect time to get the kids their haircuts.
3. Back to school shopping. Start August 1. You won't find everything you need on one shopping trip. Plus, if you shop online, you'll have time for items to be received through the mail.
4. Clean the study area. It can take up to a month for some kids to get their rooms clean. If you want your child to do homework well, they should have a place in their room or the house that is devoted to study. Buy a desk, chair and desklamp for your child if you don't already have one. And if you do, clean it all out or have your child do this!
5. Stock up the pantry with individual drinks and snacks for back to school lunches.
