Q: Dear April Masini,

I just got a new job and want to decorate my bland little cubicle to make it my own comfortable little space. The problem is, I don't want to make anyone I work with feel uncomfortable with my decor. Do you have any advice for any decorations that I should keep at home?

Sincerely,

Cute Cubicle

A:

Dear Cute Cubicle,

There are lots of ways to make your office space feel like home, but there are also a few things you definitely don't want to bring in to decorate your office.

Office decor tips and advice:

* Naked photos of yourself, your girlfriend, your wife, your boyfriend, your husband AND your children or anyone else's children are inappropriate for your office.

* Political statements of any kind really don't belong in your office.

* Keep religious icons to a minimum. No crucifixes in your office. If you want a cross in your office, wear it as jewelry around your neck so it's a personal statement. Putting one on your office wall reflects your company's views.

* Scented candles, incense and strong aromatherapy scents will hamper other people around you. Just because it smells good to you doesn't mean anyone else thinks it smells good. In fact, you may be setting off allergies. Don't light up a cigarette in your office, and don't light up a candle or anything else.
