Q: Dear April Masini,
Why is it that celebrities have such crazy lives with so much drama in them? From being hospitalized for exhaustion, to having stalkers, to being drugs addicts, I just don't get why celebrities are so prone to drama. I have a large family and a lot of friends, and I never see these kinds of things happening in their lives. What's with the celebs?
Sincerely,
Drama Celebrity
A:
Dear Drama Celebrity,
I really don't think that celebrities are more prone to hazards than the rest of us. The reason it may seem like celebrities are always being hospitalized for exhaustion or rehabbed for addiction or stalked by lunatics is because the celebrities' every move is followed by the press and the paparazzi. People love reading about celebrities because we live in a celebrity culture and we have access to information by the minute as it happens thanks to technology. This means we get to find out when Britney wants her child's teeth whitened, what sex Nicole Richie's unborn baby is, and whether Lindsey's parents are speaking or not.
The truth is that a simple flip through any number of reality shows where unknowns find fame for a fleeting second or two, will find high drama among unnamed, unknown people whose husbands are having babies with their mothers-in-law and undergoing sex change operations on the sly -- the depravity is mind boggling among normal folks.
So next time you thank your lucky stars you're not a celebrity, thank your lucky stars you're not a normal person with a penchant for high drama, too.
