End Rage On The Road

Avoid Being The Victim Of Road Rage ... And Avoid Becoming Consumed With It Yourself

Q: Dear April Masini,

I just heard the news that my city has one of the biggest cases of road rage in the U.S. I have definitely noticed a lot of maniacs on the road, and sometimes it's hard not to get caught up and become one of them. I know how dangerous road rage can turn out to be so I try to stay as calm as possible. Do you have any advice for how I can avoid being the victim of road rage and keep myself from joining the madness?

Sincerely,

Careful in the Car

A:

Dear Careful in the Car,

You're right; road rage can be a huge problem these days and everyone should know how to avoid it. Whether you are a victim of road rage, or you yourself have the rage, you need to learn how to keep it under control.
Avoid being a victim of road rage:
* Drive well. * If you're driving slowly, stay out of the left lane.
* If someone tries to engage you in their rage, disengage. Rage is one thing. Fighting takes two.
Avoid raging on the road:
* Be aware of your stress level. If it's high, keep yourself in check.
* Take a time out. Feel like you're going to lose it? Pull over and get out of the car. Take 10 breaths. Get a cup of tea or a bottle of water for a break.
* Caffeine will get you going, and if you're angry, it'll get you angry and energetic. Don't load up on caffeine or other stimulants if you're prone to rage on the road.
