Q: Dear April Masini,

I'm going in to interview for a brand new job that's much more professional than anything I've done before. My current job has an extremely casual dress code and I'm not sure what type of clothing I'm going to need for my new job. I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the boardroom and need to look really good and professional. Please help! Also, is there any type of look I should stay away from when interviewing for this job?

Dear Boardroom Style,

It is important that you look professional and stylish in the boardroom, so I've got some great ideas for how you should dress if you get this new job. Also, I've included some fashion no-nos for new job interviews.

Boardroom looks:

*Silhouettes will be slimmer. Forget the boxy look. They'll know you're a woman even though you're in a navy wool suit. The shape of things to come is more slimming and body skimming. Skirts should be right at knee length -- or slightly above or slightly below -- NO MINI'S! 

* Color is baaaack. Black, navy and grey will always be staples of the courtroom and the boardroom, but to make a big splash, try a suit in brown or rust.

* Accessorize with an armful of bangles -- ONE armful. You want to look stylish. Not like a gypsy. Leave the chandelier earrings at home.

Fashion Mistakes For Job Interviews:

*Too much skin. It's great to be seductive in the bedroom, and even at a party -- but a job interview is NOT the place to show off your toned abs, cleavage, legs or even your pedicured toes. Cover up to get the job.

*Too tight or too short. Again, keep your sexuality to yourself when it comes to work. There's no reason to show off your legs or your figure at work. Save that for your love life at home.

*Too trendy. It's great to be on the cutting edge of fashion, but unless the cutting edge of fashion is your business, remember that your motivation is to keep your customers, clients and office-workers comfortable and not distracted by your fashion sense.

*If it looks like it's ready for Goodwill let Goodwill have it. Work is a place to look successful and be successful. If your clothes are thread-worn, hole-y (not holy) and completely out of fashion, give them away.

*Your purse should be a handbag -- not a suitcase. Don't show up for a job interview toting the equivalent of something that should be checked on a 747. Your purse should show you're responsible and pulled together -- not ready for a week on Survivor.

*Leave your cell phone at home. You don't want your cell phone going off during a job interview, and you DON'T want your ring tone to be playing something goofy like 'I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt' or anything other than a conservative br-ring ....
