Q: Dear April Masini,
My family is begging to go on a vacation this summer. The only problem is, my family is big and we are pretty tight on money. It's me and my husband, and our four kids. We really can't afford two hotel rooms, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners out for even a few days. Do you have any tips on for saving money while on a family vacation?
Sincerely,
Needs a Vacation
A:
Dear Needs a Vacation,
Everybody needs to get away and travel once in a while, so it makes sense your family is yearning for a vacation. It can be hard to afford a trip for a family of six so I've compiled a few words of advice. I hope these will allow your family to enjoy an awesome vacation and spend some quality time together!
Three Tips for Saving on Family Travel:* Visit friends and relatives who have big houses and/or can put you up. Save on hotel bills that way.
* Swap houses with another family in another part of the country. There are agencies who will facilitate this, or just put the word of mouth out there through your local grapevine. Save big time this way and see the world.
* Book a hotel room on the club floor of a hotel. These floors offer complimentary breakfasts, hors d'oeuvres, tea, and happy hour — all of which are great for your kids to munch on throughout the day. Save big on restaurant bills.
Also, for mini-vacations during your busy week, it's important that you and your husband get some alone time. Check out my book, Romantic Date Ideas, for some great date ideas that will bring you much closer to your husband.
