Q: Dear April Masini,
New Year's Eve is the worst night of the year to be alone, and I don't have a date or a significant other. Do you have any tips for a single girl who's going to be all alone on New Year's Eve?
Signed,
Home Alone
A:
Dear Home Alone,
Indeed, New Year's Eve ranks up there as being one of the top three loneliest nights of the year if you are alone, and not by choice. But don't worry -- while it may be a well kept secret -- the truth is, most singles are either home alone or staying in with family.
If you are home alone, don't despair; these tips are for you:
If you're newly single, after a break-up or a divorce, and you feel you want to (or have to) make an appearance, alert your friends to the fact that you're coming to their party by yourself and that you're a little unsettled about it. They'll be on the look out for you and can help you feel more comfortable while also introducing you to any other solo-ists. Who knows? You may not be solo for long.
