Q: Dear April Masini,
Driving along the highway, it seems like everyone has a recreational vehicle these days. My family has seen so many of them, we're thinking about getting our own so we can go on long, comfortable trips. Why do you think so many families are using RVs for their vacations these days? Just to stay comfortable on the road?
Sincerely,
Potential RVer
A:
Dear Potential RVer,
High end recreational vehicles are definitely finding their place in the family vacation market for several reasons.
Why RVs are in:
*Families are taking more vacations in more varied combinations than ever before. Step-parents, step-siblings, "Glamparents" who are young and fit take their grandchildren so the parents can escape for a week or two during the summer, and the combinations include other extended family members these days. Few are the days when a family packs up the car to go to the beach for a week. Luxury RVs provide a great way for groups of people to vacation together.
*More people are taking more kinds of vacations. Volunteer vacations, educational vacations, and multi-generational family vacations are just some of the variations on the traditional summer vacation that are being taken and parents are looking for more different kinds of vacations. High end RV vacations fit that bill.
*Terrorism has changed the way we travel, and many people are still affected by the terrorism of 911 and since then. They are loathe to put their families on planes and are more interested in driving vacations. High end RV vacations provide another option for a growing market of the vacation population.
*Flexibility. The high-end RV allows families flexibility to leave when they want and not have to scramble to get through security lines at airports and become victims of airline departure delays while not giving up The Four Seasons affect of luxury by having a high-end RV.
