Dating Tips and Advice

Q: Dear April Masini,

We're taking a family vacation to another state, and it's about a five-hour drive. My kids are young and I know that they're going to be antsy. Any advice on keeping them entertained?

Sincerely,

Traveling Dad

A:

Dear Traveling Dad,

Here are some easy tips for keeping kids entertained on long trips!

* The obvious big fun is a car with television screens in the back so your kids can watch cartoons or other shows while you get them where you want them to be.

* Kids love music, and there are lots and lots of child-oriented CDs these days for all ages. The bad news is, you'll have to listen to them, too.

* The alphabet game is big fun with kids who can read. The idea is to find a word starting with A along the road -- on a billboard, a store, a bumper sticker -- anywhere. The person who finds it, yells it out -- and then the search is on for a word starting with B -- and so on down the line.

* The good and the bad news about MP3 players is that they plug up everyone's ears. This can keep kids entertained musically, without fights about what music is playing on the radio or CD. Everyone has their own music system. It also keeps everyone from listening to each other.
