New Trend in Extravagant Amenities
By
Relationship Advice Expert April MasiniQ: Dear April Masini,
For my honeymoon, my husband and I really want all out for a luxurious trip. But funnily enough, we didn't even have to leave the hotel room for an amazing experience. We felt like we were celebrities getting the royal treatment with the attentive wait staff accommodating every whim. Is this common in hotels today?
Sincerely,
Hotel Heiress
A:
Dear Hotel Heiress,
Concierge service has been taken to a whole new level with the trend towards home is wherever you are. Thank you very much, technology, for inspiring this trend. Having internet service at your fingertips, you can have movies, meals, clothes, dates -- whatever you want brought to you. In fact, these seemingly magic internet screens are popping up in places they never were before -- kitchens in homes now frequently have desks and internet stations as do health clubs so you can check your e-mail between reps.
Hotels are not ones to be left in the dust, and they've combined the home is wherever you are trend with the Gen X theme -- you are what you don't have to do. That's where hotel services that make the old concierge services that got you theatre tickets and restaurant reservations look like dinosaurs with their new services resembling the character Hobson, in Dudley Moore's Arthur -- on crack.
Concierge services do everything but psychoanalysis for clients -- and even then, my guess is that they can hook you up with someone who's Freudian, Jungian -- whatever you want. Unpacking your suitcase is ho-hum, garden variety. The new concierge service will be your tech support, coming to your room to unsnaggle your computer woes, your personal assistant, your mommy (Need cookies and milk? It's 3 a.m. ? No problem. Chewy or crisp?), your drill sergeant (personal trainers are on the spot), fashionista (personal shoppers are on the spot) or nanny/babysitter for your tots.
