Yes, there is a new trend and it’s “Vanity Googling” (looking up your own name on the search engine).

There is nothing wrong with vanity Googling — in fact, I recommend it. Would you go through a day without glancing in the mirror? Checking to see if there’s nothing in your teeth or that your hair looks okay? No! And there is no reason not to check your web appearance either — and that means checking out what’s out there about you.

Information is disseminated so quickly and so widely now, that it’s entirely possible to find something on the web about yourself that you didn’t know was out there. By knowing what’s out there about yourself, you have the option of having it removed, enhancing it or just plain old knowing what people are saying about you.

It’s not vane to check your Google-Q. It’s responsible!
