Entertainment: The Making Of A Hollywood ‘It Girl’

On the subject of Scarlett Johansson — her success, how she has become Hollywood’s It Girl, her acting ability, how no one seems to get tired of her (even though one might say she is quite overexposed), how she evokes old Hollywood glamour, and how she does it all (now she’s even finishing a record) — is she different from the other It Girls?
Scarlett Johansson is yet another flavor of the month, a Hollywood term meant to exploit the fact that she’s hot today — and next month someone else will be as hot as she is. Well….maybe not next month, but definitely next year.
There are cycles to Hollywood, and seasoned actresses understand that being the right look at the right age is a fleeting position to be in. Many actresses try to hold onto their fame by having cosmetic surgeries that fight time and keep their bodies young. But the reality is that age happens, and youth can only fend it off for so long.
Scarlett Johansson has become the It Girl of the moment because she’s the swing in the pendulum from skinny girls to fleshy girls. Ms. Johansson has a healthy view and outlook when it comes to her body and her weight. She doesn’t try to be thinner than she is, and she celebrates her natural look. But to say that no one seems to get tired of her is pretty short sighted. Like the other It Girls of days gone by — remember Julia Roberts? Sandy Bullock? Demi Moore? — her time, too, will come.
As for her being a double threat — actor and singer — ho hum. Eddie Murphy did it. Jamie Foxx did it. Jennifer Lopez did it (backwards — singer first, actress second). Even Lindsay did it. It’s natural for entertainers to try their hand at different forms of entertainment. Watch out for her triple threat to come — directing!
