Keep your friends close — your enemies closer is an old adage attributed to Machiavelli, that rings true in every case I’ve ever seen. And when it comes to competition, this rule could not be better applied.

Know what you are planning to do to win your share of the market segment, but even more importantly, know what your competitors are doing — at all times.

If something works for them, make it work for you — but make it work better.

If something isn’t working for them, consider why.

If something is working for them and not for you — think outside the box.

And by the way, as a relationship expert, all of these tips work in the dating world as well, where the marketplace has become more competitive than ever, due to technology and the introduction of online dating and online relationships.
