Thank god that some things don’t change. While the little black dress may have different hemlines in different years, and different degrees of fited-ness, it will always remain black, and it will always remain classic and it will always remain a GREAT standby that can be counted on to be appropriate in a myriad of social situations in spite of all the crazy and wild changes around us.Here’s an excerpt from my book for women called Think & Date Like A Man, from a chapter on what clothes to have and buy:#1 - A black dress. Although there’s no solid evidence that cavewomen had them, little black dresses are historical must haves because they are charming and enchanting. If it’s well fitted and simple in design, it will be one of the most important pieces in your closet. One thing you can count on with this item: Nothing says classy like a black dress and pearls. It’s fashion eternity.Choose a dress that can be chameleon-like. A perfect basic dress has one kind of chic in the morning–it can be worn with flat heels, sporty scarves and belts and a second kind of chic in the evening, when the same dress accompanied by richer jewelry, stiletto heels and an elegant wrap should be literally unrecognizable as the same dress you wore at 11 a.m. The key to your choice lies in its simplicity. Learn to recognize it when you see it; a simple top, a clear plain neckline, the skirt slim or slightly flared, as little detail as possible, and preferably in a solid color. The little black dress renders women class-less and timeless. It crosses socio-economic lines and ethnic, racial and religious lines. It allows others to see the woman who’s wearing the little black dress — and not to just see all of the crazy fashions and trends that some women tend to adopt for events or every day wear. The little black dress doesn’t draw attention away from the woman — it frames her.
