Marriage: Declining Rates of Racial Intermarriage

What does this say about race relations?
This trend says less about race relations than it does about love — in general, like attracts like. Whether it’s Republicans, Democrats, or people of similar races or religions. This like attracting like dynamic doesn’t indicate prejudice or bad race relations. It just means that people are attracted to others with similar appearances, values, backgrounds, etc.
In fact, many people who are married or together for a long time appear to resemble each other after a while.
Not every study or love relationship is about race or politics. Sometimes it’s just about love.
If intermarriage is a sign of progress, should a decrease in intermarriage be seen as a step back?
Well, yes — but who ever said intermarriage was a sign of progress!? Marriage — between opposite sexes, opposite religions, opposite ethnic groups or any two opposites indicates a love between two people and an absence of hate. Intermarriage is just another option. People can find their true love, their lifelong love, or just their next husband or wife in any racial group, religious group, sexual group or political group. Intermarriage is not the issue here, and shouldn’t be made to be. The issue is choice. There are now more choices than ever and THAT is what progress is about.
Or are there more important measures of racial progress?
The most important measure of racial progress is peace! When people of different races can work together, live together in the same neighborhood or the same house, socialize together, educate themeself and their children together, then there is racial progress. In fact, when race is no longer a factor of progress, then we’ve all really moved ahead!
