Art is the expression of some inner self. Whether a person is abled or disabled, the process of artistic expression is pretty much the same. A person uses a medium to express feelings. In true art, there is no such thing as being disabled, and whether a person is handicapped, fully functioning, imprisoned, abused or free. Art is merely an expression of a being through a medium.

People who feel that they are held back in some way — whether it’s because they are handicapped in a world that is mostly not handicapped, or whether they have psychic abilities in a world that mostly does not recognize psychic abilities — find great relief in artistic expression. It is a way to get out their feelings, rather than holding them in, or not being able to express them directly to other people. When a person is sensitive, and feels he or she is being held back in some way, it is a great relief to get feelings that affect the sensitivity out, as art, and loosen the shackles they feel are binding them — whether the shackles are real, metaphorical or imaginary.

Without an expression of feelings, the feelings become somatized and show up as heart attacks, ulcers, acne, gastroenteritis and lots of other ailments and disorders.
