Reading has a way of creating personal space while traveling, plus it’s emotional and psychological benefits — including its role as a stress reliever and a way to escape the claustrophobic feeling of being packed tightly together with other people — to say nothing of a way to gain knowlege and expand your vocabulary.

Tips for Reading While You Travel:

* Put on a pair of headphones with no music on. This will discourage others from talking to you or striking up a conversation about your book.

* Bring a pair of drug store reading glasses in the lowest strength with you. Eye strain from traveling can make reading difficult. Don’t stress your eyes more or give yourself a headache. Just pop on a pair of $10 glasses to give yourself a nice easy read.

* Read for fun. If you force yourself to read something, you’re not going to have an enjoyable experience. If you read for fun and read whatever you truly want to read, the experience will be better and you’ll find yourself reading more.

*Watch your vocabulary expand as a result of regular reading. You can’t help but pick up a few new words without even trying. Impress the guests at a cocktail party or in a meeting. Or just impress yourself.
