Fashion / Parenting: Dangers of Crocs

Fashion first. Unless, of course, you’re a toddler or a child. Even baby fashionistas have to draw the line somewhere. But where, is really up to the parent.

Crocs can be difficult for kids to wear and walk well in, but they’re less dangerous than other shoes kids wear, including flip flops, which leave toes and feet open to injury while riding bikes, running on concrete and climbing on jungle gyms. The worst shoes parents ever bought kids were and are “wheelies” — those shoes that look like sneakers, but actually have wheels that contract into the sole of the shoe like wheels on an airplane that takes off. These shoes send kids careening when the little feet should just be walking. Who EVER came up with those? If God wanted kids to wear wheels on their feet, he would have invented roller skates.

Oh, wait a minute.

Before parents go crazy, confiscating crocs, remember the law of common sense, for which there is no fine if you don’t have any: If your child is walking and running fine in his or her crocs, then let it be. They’re not that dangerous. Besides, who has time to confiscate shoes when you should be rounding up junior’s lead based toys!
