Entertainment Today: Vintage Television Resurgance

There are two reasons that vintage television has made a resurgence.

* Technology boomed, and there are so many more channels now than ever before. There’s cable, there’s satellite, there’s a screen on your television, your computer, your phone — watching television and televised entertainment has never been more available to more people more hours of more days than now. And that means there are more places for televised entertainment.

That’s why you’re seeing more “vintage television”. There is a huge need for product to fill the time slots and the channels.

* There is also a pendulum swing back to family programming that is truly G rated, that has not yet peaked on television. The film industry is now inundated with G rated films that are animated, adapted and redone, as well as original. But television hasn’t quite realized the G rated market because they are still exploiting X rated television. In fact so much of new programming is X rated that the television industry has changed in terms of what’s allowed and what isn’t. Sex is everywhere on television, even more so than violence, and there is going to be a trend back to G rated shows. This trend is starting with vintage television, and within the next decade, original programming will be aping those vintage shows. Until then, the resurgence of the oldies and goodies is here for us all to enjoy — with our kids!
