Sadly, sometimes an ex refuses to accept the relationship is over and their behavior escalates to persistent pleading, begging, arguing, texting, phoning, emailing – and showing up. If this happens to you, here’s what you need to […]

Law enforcement is not supposed to solve the problem. They are just there to enforce the laws. The problem is people are drinking and driving. There are lots of ways to try and solve the problem, but looking to law enforcement to solve the problem is not the answer.

Earlier this evening I had the distinct honor of participating in the celebration of a young woman’s one year sobriety anniversary. Part of the celebration includes the celebrant sharing his or her story. Several things happened during this event that strengthened my, already solid, faith in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The woman, in her early twenties, shared […]

One of the biggest fears most humans share is of economic insecurity. People drink and drug over it. They develop ulcers and other physical problems. Some become workaholics with no time for their families or the pursuit of happiness. Many have jumped out of windows or put shotguns into their mouths and pulled triggers, ending […]

There is a big difference between having a good time and creating a problem, but some people use partying as an excuse to hide problems and hide from problems. The person who comes to mind most immediately is celebrity Britney Spears, who is a great example of someone with real life problems that everyone else […]

I was talking with a friend of mine last night about blocking emotional pain. We’re both recovering alcoholics and have been through a lot, together and separately, during our 30 year friendship.
Both in early sobriety, we’re discovering what it’s like to feel the raw emotions without alcohol’s anesthetic relief. It’s a bitch to say the least.
So […]

My Dad calls it “fighting life.” In AA they call it “self will run riot” or not “turning it over.” Whatever the verbage, a lot of us have control issues that shackle us to intolerable frustration every day of our lives. This phenomenon certainly doesn’t discriminate against non-drinkers either. The phrase “dry drunk” is for abstainers who make […]
