President Clinton Again? I Can Dig It

Lambaste me all you want but, so far, I like what Hillary’s saying. During an early primary-campaign speech in New Hampshire she frankly and concisely addressed the main problems in today’s government–waste and incompetence. She outlined a plan, highlighting the need to get rid of 500,000 government contractors–a potential savings of $18 billion a year. I can get on board with that.
While acknowledging the tip-of-the icebergness this proposal represents, she brought to obvious light the need for restoration of confidence in government compentence, saying that without it, “we will see the steady erosion of our government’s capacity.” I’m pretty sure we’re already seeing that but it still needs to be said–over and over again.
She wants to ban former cabinet officials from lobbying their former colleagues. That’s a big ten-four too. I think we can all agree that “good ole boy” politics isn’t working today. It’s definitely time to stable the crony pony and, as she proposed, streamline the federal bureaucracy and improve accountability. That’s putting it mildly. Currently there is NO accountability.
She addressed college students struggling to pay tuition, seniors unable to afford health care and government scientists producing research that counters the administration’s agendas, promising they would not remain unseen by government. Thanks Hillary. Just the mention and honest acknowledgement of these currently insurmountable issues helps me breathe easier.
I like her practicality and her unwavering strength. We’ve all seen her strength before. She’s not easily ruffled, that’s for sure. She’s strong. She’s articulate (a big plus considering the babble we’ve had to decipher for the past seven years). And, as someone pointed out to me, we probably won’t have to worry about her holding her own in foreign relations even though she’s a woman. Some of the hottest beds of dissention today are dominated by masoginistic (to say the least) thinking. Women don’t get much consideration, putting it mildly. But she’s got Bill. We always knew she kept him around for a reason. That’s bound to help her in more ways than one.
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see what happens. I want to read Obama’s book and find out more about him. But I wouldn’t have the first problem with Hillary taking over. Big change is mandatory at this point. Besides, I’m dying to see if part of her inauguration festivities include a weenie roast in the oval office.
