Looking Inside Your Body Will Motivate You To Eat Better and Exercise

Their epidermis (and everything else) was showing today at the Orlando Science Center.
We went to see the “Our Body” exhibit that everyone seems to be talking about. There were real skeletons and full bodies with the skin removed, revealing all of the muscles and tendons. They even managed to preserve the veins and arteries. One poor schlep was holding a hanger with his own skin draped over it.
It was really interesting, not morbid or gross at all. And, if you need motivation to get healthy, check out this exhibit (sooner or later it will show up at a museum near you) or at pictures of the human anatomy. It will make you think twice about what you put into or expect out of your body.
Seeing all of the blood vessels across the head of one body made me realize why a person bleeds so much when the head is cut. Observing the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the discus thrower made me feel inspired to work all of mine since I’m lucky they still work.
We do often take our bodies for granted. I know I tend to forget about what’s actually going on inside even though mine is no specimen on the outside, a direct reflection.
It’s amazing how everything connects to create a flow and how important it is that the blood is healthy and moving quickly. When you think about it, the blood is the healer so if we eat foods to enrich the blood and move about as much as possible, even straining on a fairly regular basis, we can be pretty sure our blood and the organs it supplies will respond favorably.
Even though we all want to look better, sometimes it is impossible to feel like exercising and many times that comfort food calls and calls to us. When you look inside at all of the efficiently connected tubes, pumps and filters that make us work, it’s hard to justify things like mayonaise, butter, and sour cream. When you look at the lungs, you feel instant suppression at the thoughts of pollution, cigarette smoke, and chronic channel surfing.
So, when you start beating yourself up this January, grab an anatomy book or magazine, go online and look up the information on this international exhibit called “Our Body” and focus on the inside. I promise it will motivate you. And if the inside’s in shape, the outside will be too. It’s a win win undertaking. I really need to start thinking twice about my word choices.
