I don't know. I think it's possible to find yourself by moving away. I mean, it's true that you can find yourself at home, but maybe sometimes people need to start over, away from the pressures of family and friends to find out who they really want to be. Maybe everyone expects this girl to be one way, and she is always trying to live up to that, so she just wants a break. True, she can do that at home, but maybe it's easier for her to find herself somewhere else.
I think I agree with the author. Why do people say stuff like I need to find myself? Going somewhere else to "find yourself" implies that part of yourself has run away and you are trying to catch it. How do you know exactly where it went? I.e., San Francisco. I think it's a copout for people who are running away from their problems.
A copout? I don't know. Maybe sometimes people need to figure things out and they can only do it with a fresh start. That doesn't seem like a copout to me! Why is it a copout?
