My friend's husband really loves extreme sports. She's kind of into them too and they're talking about going on an extreme dating adventure and want us to watch their kids while they're away. My husband and I think they are being ridiculous for going on an extreme dating vacation and that they need to grow up and start going on family-based vacations with our kids. They are in desperate need of romance advice that doesn't involve jumping off cliffs. What do you think about extreme dating?

Extreme sports are where people get out of the ordinary thrills, when the everyday and special occasion thrills no longer suffice. Extreme vacation dating -- or any kind of extreme dating reflects what's going on in America. Daters are putting their need for speed, height, danger, and other extremes ahead of partnering.

Extreme vacation dating is so seductive because it feeds the need for adrenaline, and while adrenaline junkies can be fun in small doses, they are lethal in couples -- especially couples who choose to have children. Children and families need constancy and stability to maintain. Extreme vacation dating is the exact opposite of the building blocks for stable relationships.

What extreme vacations are great for is a bunch of guys getting together once or twice a year to feed their testosterone need. But men and women together, dating in the extreme, is a recipe for disaster.
