Advice For Finding Love (And Spicing Up Marriages) on Romance Vacations

Find Romance On Vacation

Relationship Advice Expert April Masini

Advice Seeker: Dear April Masini,

I’m not having any luck with dating in my small town. I’ve been hearing a lot of positive things about romance vacations, where you travel with other singles in search of romance. Are these a good idea and do you have any other tips for finding romance on vacation?

Sincerely,

Looking For love

April Masini's advice:

Dear Looking For Love,

Life today is much more layered than ever. Nobody is just one thing any more. People have jobs, relationships, children, spouses, ex-spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, bosses, lawyers, etc. Those relationships often overlap. Sometimes the boss is the spouse -- or the boyfriend -- or the ex. All this is because communication technology has blossomed -- like a neutron bomb. People can communicate, multi-task and be in more places at one time (thanks to telecommunication technology), than ever before.

So ... when it comes to love, anyone who's serious about romance and/or relationships, can use the specificity that is a by-product of technology, to make sparks fly. Honing down who you are and what it is you want in a relationship is step one. Finding that person is step two. When the best way to find that person used to be to ask your family and friends to fix you up, there are now MYRIAD choices, and the more specific you are, the better your chances of making love work.

Romance vacations:

Romance vacations set aside time for just what it is you're looking for. They also put you in an arena with other people who want exactly the same thing. Having done this you're already ahead of the game, as most people have trouble setting aside time for relationships in their busy lives. They try to multi-task relationships instead of focusing their energy on them during a week or two week long vacation. No wonder so many relationships are confused, short lived or just plain old wrong -- when people don't spend the appropriate energy on the task at hand.

Finding the "right" romance vacation:

My next piece of advice is to find a romance vacation that is specific to your needs. If you're single, you will want a group trip that has other single adults (that means LEGALLY single, not just single as a "state of mind"), in an appropriate age range, and socio-economic bracket. If you want to get more specific, there are romance trips that focus on religion, interest, and single parent status.

Taking a second honeymoon as a romance vacation:

If you're married, and you want to put the X back in your sex life, re-consider traditional honeymoon packages. Who says they're just for first timers. Consider a yearly honeymoon package to remind you why you to celebrate your marriage -- in a world that's busy and hectic. Taking time out for a romance vacation honors yourself as a couple.

Non-traditional romance vacations:

Consider romance vacations that aren't specified for romance. Many historical tours, biking trips, yoga retreats, archeological digs, ecological surveys and charity projects (like Habitat for Humanity) may not be geared for singles, but they are geared for people of similar interests. Make it your business to inquire of the organizing group how many singles will be on the trip. Make it your business to tell the organizer that you are single, and are looking to meet someone great on this trip. You're not burdening them. You're making their life interesting, and more likely than not, they'd love to play matchmaker.

More tips for finding romance on vacation:

In addition, don't forget to ask the airline check-in desk to please seat you next to someone single, attractive, and tall (short, etc. -- you fill in this last descriptive adjective to your liking.

If you're looking for a successful single, splurge for a first-class seat. You won't meet the President of a company or a wealthy single as easily in coach as you will in first class.
