Advice Seeker: Dear April Masini,
I recently read the Elizabeth Taylor is on now her ninth marriage, and while I wish her all the happiness in the world, it leaves me wondering, what's with these celebrities who keep re-marrying? Do these stars genuinely look for true love in each marriage, or is just an extension of their eccentric personalities? Can celebrities offer the average person any relationship advice?
Sincerely,
Celeb Lover
Dear Celeb Lover,
Good observation. There are some infamous stars like Elizabeth Taylor that perpetually seem to be remarrying, for one reason or another.
Jerry Maguire couldn't be alone -- and neither can many people. When women can't be alone, there are several reasons for their behavior:
1. I'm no one without a partner! Some women believe that their identity is complete only when they are part of a couple. They will be a couple -- even if it's with Mr. Right Now -- rather than be alone and wait or look for Mr. Right.
2. Addiction. Many people are addicted to the physiological rush that the body produces when hormones respond to love and sex feelings. As relationships age, and the excitement wanes, these feelings dissipate. That's when these love junkies move on. To new partners.3. Replacing a phantom limb. Many times women who break up are so sad and depressed that they think the only way to heal is to replace what they lost -- their man. They immediately jump into new relationships so that they're not without a partner.
4. Lack of self-knowledge. Dating is easy -- especially with the plethora of available singles on the internet dating sites. Knowing what it is you want in a man, and what kind of person you are as a partner, is key to not wasting time in the wrong relationships. If a woman doesn't know herself, her needs and her ideal man's characteristics, it's likely that she'll be bopping from relationship to relationship without finding Mr. Right.
