Advice Seeker: Dear April,
I’ve been going out on the town a lot during the week, which makes for some tough mornings at work. While I’m getting better at acting less hung-over, I can never seem to get rid of my puffy eyes. Do you have any tips for keeping my eyes looking bright and cheery?
Sincerely,
Puffy Eyes
Dear Puffy Eyes,
There’s a lot you can do to conceal your puffy hangover eyes…and not announce to the whole office that you were up late chugging martinis.
Tips for concealing hangover eyes:
* Sunglasses. Not a good idea for indoors, but keep them on when you're outside to hide the hangover eye symptoms.
* Avoid salt. Salt will naturally make most people puffy. If you eat potato chips for breakfast, your eyes will be doubly puffy.* Natural diuretics. There are foods that are natural diuretics and will help alleviate the puffiness from hangover eyes. Some of these foods are tea, coffee, and cranberry juice. Substitute these drinks for sodas or smoothies.
* Watch the concealer. It's natural for many people to grab the concealer to camouflage dark circles, but one of the worst mistakes these women make is actually drawing attention to puffy eyes by lopping on too much concealer. Use concealer sparingly and try using a light eye shadow on the lids to draw attention to the upper part of the eye, and away from the puffy, dark lower part.
* Stay away from eye liner and heavy eye makeup. You don't want to draw attention to your eyes with eye liner and heavy eye makeup when you have hangover eyes. Use some mascara, but keep your makeup on the light side.
* Cool compresses on your eyes will reduce swelling the same way ice packs reduce bruise swelling on other parts of your body. Try cool tea bags and cucumber slices. You can put these compresses on your eyes throughout the day for ten to thirty minutes at a time. The tea also draws toxins out of your skin.
