Advice Seeker: Dear April,
I just moved to a really wealthy neighborhood and I am having a hard time trying to figure some of my neighbors out. They all have a lot of money, but they all act so differently. My neighbor across the street won't even talk to me, which makes me feel like I just don't have enough money for me to matter to him. Another neighbor comes over all the time and is extremely nice to me; it's almost like she pities me for not having enough money. Do you think it's true that wealthy people have a lot of issues?
Sincerely,
Living with the Rich
Dear Living with the Rich,
Wealthy and affluent people have issues depending on how they conduct their lives. Many affluent people have no issues because they don't let their affluence affect them in a negative way. Some affluent people lose touch with the rest of the world, and forget the disparity in income between people in our country. But that loss of perspective is true of middle class folks, as well.
