10 Tips For Preventing Sunburn

I love spending time outside in the summer, but I'm worried about the sun. I get sunburn very easily, and I'm so nervous that it will turn into something worse. Do you have any tips on how I can keep myself protected from the sun this summer?

Dear I Want Fun in the Sun,

Of course, by now you know the dangers of the sun, and you know you need to protect yourself from it. Right? Well, in case you need some reminding of how you can stay best protected, I have some tips for you.

How to prevent sunburn:

1. Stay out of the sun. Simple, right? Sometimes the most obvious answers are the best ones.

2. Plan outdoor activities around the sun's appearances. Go to the beach early in the morning or after 6 p.m. You'll get your fun without the sun.

3. Sunscreen. Duh. Experiment with different products to find what works for you. Don't scrimp on sunscreen. By splurging on the right product you may be preventing skin cancer.

4. Hats. Buy hats for the summer that will protect your skin. Buy a whole wardrobe of them. Invest in hats for the summer.

5. Sunglasses. One pair just won't do. Why? They get lost. Have half a dozen pairs in your house, so you are never without a pair.

6. Sun stations. Have a sunburn prevention kit in several places so you always have access to one. Stash sunscreen, a hat, glasses, and lip protection in your car, in your purse, at the pool, and in your desk.

7. Lips get burned, too. Buy a product that has sunscreen in it and use it.

8. Make sure your makeup has sunscreen in it.

9. Just because you don't see the sun doesn't mean you're not getting sunburned. Sun can burn your skin through cloudy skies and overcast days.

10. Feet! Don't forget your feet. In flip flops and sandals as well as barefoot, your feet will get sunburned if you don't sunscreen them.
