Advice Seeker: Dear April,
When the Fourth of July falls on a Monday or a Friday, we get to take a glorious long weekend off from work. But happens when the Fourth falls in the middle of the week? For instance, this year it's on a Wednesday. Do we just take the day off or the whole part of the week?
Sincerely,
Middle of the Week
Dear Middle of the Week,
When the Fourth of July falls in the middle of the week people usually handle it in one of two ways:
* Take the rest of the week off! What a great way to gain a vacation week -- if the Fourth falls on a Wednesday, take off Thursday, and casual Friday, add the weekend, and you've got a healthy five day vacation chunk to go away, veg at home or some combination of the both.
* Those who don't take the rest of the week off will have a very light Thursday and Friday, and I'm predicting half days on Friday with early exits because the rest of the week just doesn't feel like a real week.
The beauty of a mid-week holiday is that it breaks up the week and gives employees a nice rest so they can return to work the next day rejuvenated -- or hung over, tired, and sunburned, not quite ready for a full two days of productivity in the office.
A boss with a heart will say, take the rest of the week off -- and come back ready to rumble on Monday!
