Beauty Routines You Should NOT Try Right Before Your Wedding

Wedding Advice - Sedu Beauty Tips for Brides

Advice Seeker: Dear April,

I'm getting married in a couple weeks and there are a whole bunch of beauty routines I want to do before my wedding so I look perfect for the big day. For instance, I'd love to get Botox and I want to try spray-tanning so I have the perfect glow for my wedding and honeymoon. Some of my friends are telling me to be careful in case something goes wrong so close to my wedding. What do you think? Do you have any advice for making sure I look fabulous on my big day?

Sincerely,

Beautified Bride

April Masini's advice:

Dear Beautified Bride,

Brides often make the mistake of doing firsts right before their wedding. The rule of thumb is "If you haven't done it before, don't try it the week of the wedding."

These are some beauty routines you should NOT try for the first time right before your wedding:
  • Botox
  • Facial peels or experimental facials
  • New hair stylists and makeup artists, hair color and highlights or low-lights or perms
  • Self or professional tanning or tanning products
  • Any new products -- especially if you are allergy-prone
  • Tattoos or piercings

There is no reason in the world to try something you've never done before the week of your wedding except for being disorganized and impulsive. Make sure your maid of honor has veto power to make sure you don't try something you'll regret.

Then there's the yellow light item:

  • Massage

Massages right before the wedding may make you fall asleep at the altar. Some people become so relaxed that they need a nap afterward. Have the massage, if you're having one, the day before, not the day of.
